As Long As The Rivers Flow is a one-hour documentary that examines the history of Norway House Cree Nation and the profound transformation occurring in this and in other Northern Manitoba communities that are succeeding in the face of great adversity. Our story is told in six parts.
The documentary opens with those who lived long ago in a place where land and water had been sources of life, culture and livelihood for thousands of years. This first chapter explores how traditional skills of hunting, trapping and fishing Ð a lifeline passed from generation to generation Ð ensured the peoples' survival, not just physically and socially, but culturally and spiritually as well. Life was tough but meaningful. Survival was hard but attainable, if resources were abundant, as they were most of the time.
