Chapter five explores the promise of the 21st century. Decades of hydropower development in Northern Manitoba have taught all parties involved some important lessons in planning other projects. A commitment by Manitoba Hydro and the Northern Manitoba Cree Nations to pursue the next generation of hydro projects as economic partners ensures development will be sustainable. As well, Northern bands such as Norway House, are determined to reap maximum economic benefits from employment generated by these joint ventures. And, there is a willingness to preserve and promote traditional skills of resource based activities like hunting, trapping and fishing so future generations will know the importance of the cultural and spiritual connection to the land and water.
